? ? The white body of thisporcelain vase is covered with white glaze and blue-and-white patterns. The bottom of the vase is left unglazed. Without a lid, the vase has a small mouth, a flat rim, a short neck, broad shoulders, a deep belly, a slender shin that turns slightly outwards near the bottom, and a shallow ring foot. The vase is decorated with six layers of blue-and-white patterns. On the belly is the main motif that describes the story of Xiao He chasing after Han Xin under moonlight, which is dotted with pine trees, bamboo leaves, plum blossoms, plantain leaves, and rocks. Auspicious symbols and facing-up lotus flowers are painted near the mouth of the vase on the exterior wall. On the upper part of the shoulder of the vase are interlocking lotus flowers, whileon the shin are curly grass, facing-up lotus flowers, and lotus petals in between them.
The color of this vase is bright and stable. There is a strong sense of layer about the various patterns across the body of the vase, thanks to the orderly and appropriate arrangement of these patterns. The vase is perfect in terms of shape, glaze color, decoration, and firing technique. It exemplifies the superb skills of potters in Jingdezhen, and represents the highest artistic achievement of blue-and-white porcelain products in the Yuan dynasty.
