This celadon zun has a trumpet-shaped open mouth, a long neck, a round belly, a ring foot, and a lid that is shaped like a monk hat. The zun is decorated with various gorgeous patterns, mainly patterns of lotus flowers, using relief, stamping, engraving and other decoration techniques. The various patterns of lotus--lotus in a normal position, lotus in an upside-down position, and lotus with single- or multiple-layered petals--are cleverly and harmoniously placed on the zun to create a perfect artistic style. This zun, with lotus patterns covering all its body, exudes a strong sense of Buddhism. It is indeed a rare Buddhist treasure of art. The pair of zuns unearthed in 1972are the largest and the most beautiful among all the cultural objects of the same kind from the Northern and Southern Dynasties, earning them the title, “King of Celadon Ware”.
